William "Bill" Sterling, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2026, after a long battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends.

Bill was born in Utica, New York and attended West Winfield Central School.

Bill married Elizabeth Jernigan in August of 1965, where they finally settled in Litchfield, New York.

Throughout his career, he drove truck for 35 years and retired from Remmington Arms.  Not one to sit still, he kept busy by working at Walmart, a driver for the Amish, and tinkering on anything he good put his hands on.

A true sports fan, Bill enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees, along with following NASCAR.

Bill is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Kimberly Sterling of Remsen, NY and son Jason Sterling of Savannah, Georgia.   He has left behind 5 siblings (Ronald, Frank, Jessie, Kevin and Bonnie), sister and brother-in-law (Mary and Craig), along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded by his grandson.

A true lover of Christ, there will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11am at Ilion Community Church, 55 Central Plaza Suite 44, Ilion, NY 13357.  In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation to the Herkimer Humane Society as Bill was a true animal lover.
