Obituary

William "Bill" Bernhardt, 94, of Munnsville, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on January 31st, 2024.

Bill was born in 1929 in Utica New York, son of the late Evan Bernhardt and Bertha Merklinger Bernhardt.


He spent many years as an electrician, and was a member of IBEW local 181. He also had a passion for hockey and retired as an Official for the AHL working with hockey clubs since the 1960s. His favorite hockey team was the Montreal Canadiens. Bill is a veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Army.


Surviving William are his loving wife of 50 years Dorothy Bernhardt of Munnsville, his children Linda Seifert and the late Chuck Seifert of Dallas Texas, Debbie and Joe Lawendowski of Marcy, Cynthia and Lou Alteri of Holland Patent, Jeff and Susan Hudson of New Hartford, and Kelly Kowalski and Richard Sylvester of Munnsville. He was predeceased by his son Daniel Bernhardt, and stepchildren Shelley Laurin, and Charles Hudson. Also his sister Barbara Manske.


He has three brothers and sister-in-laws, Robert Bernhardt of South Trenton, Roger and Linda Bernhardt of Saquoit, and Richard and Carol Bernhardt of Chadwicks. He also has two sisters and brother-in-laws, Sandra and Richard Griffith of Westmoreland and Geraldine and Edward Kulesza of Texas.


Also surviving Bill, are his grandchildren that he dearly loved, Kayla, Julia, Jessica, Jamie, Daniel, Sarah, Michael, Matthew, and LuAnne. He also has several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.


There will be a graveside service at Oneida Castle cemetery in the spring at the convenience of his family. All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Sunday February 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Oneida American Legion Post 169 at 398 N.  Main Street in Oneida.
