Obituary

Mr. William Richard "Bill" Bush, it took over 80 years for his life to come full circle, in Utica, NY. He was born there, educated there & diagnosed with pancreatic cancer there, succumbing to it, at home, July 24, 2014, with coordination of care by the local Hospice. He chose to spend most of his final years in New Smyrna Beach, Fl.,but all summers at his residence in Marcy, NY. Bill was a graduate of Whitesboro High School & later received an Associates degree from MVCC, with an RN and then his Bachelors degree from SUNY, Utica. In between he had a military career of over 22 years, as a Sr. Chief Hospital Medical Corpsman, in the U.S.Navy, serving many places in the world, but most recently with the US Marines, in Vietnam, receiving among his awards, a Purple Heart. After this retirement, he worked for NY State, at Marcy & Utica Psyciatric Centers for over 20 years, last serving as a Nurse Administrator. Since then Bill has been actively involved in volunteer work in NSB, Fl. He worked for over 15 years with the Halifax Hospital Hospice of Volusia Flagler, the Visitor's Center in NSB, Fl, the Marine Discovery Center, The Hub on Canal St. and the Medical Reserve Corp, of the Florida DOH. He was an active member of Florida VFW Post 4250, the American Legion Post 17, Utica, NY, Amvets and the Whitestown, NY, Veterans Club. He was a member of the NSB Elks Lodge, Port Orange Eagles and the Moose fraternal organizations. He was active in the Southeast Volusia Co. Genealogical Society, the Maryland Club and was Membership Chair of the Northeast Fl Chapter RPEA, in St Augustine. He did this daily volunteer work with his long time partner, Nanci Agett, whom he leaves behind to continue this work. Bill is also survived by his son, Mike (Barbara McKernan & son Michael), his daughter, Marianne (Michael J, Brown) and children, Lauren Kupiec (with sons Matthew & Derek ) and Adam Soper (Kristin and son Nicholas & Nov. baby ). He was pre deceased by brothers, Ralph and Robert and has many nieces and nephews, several of whom were particularly close to him. The John L. Matt Funeral Home in Chadwicks, NY and the Baldwin brothers Cremation & Funeral Society in New Smyrna Beach, Fl, coordinated the arrangements. A Celebration of Life in Marcy, NY, was private. Full Military service will be in a National Veterans cemetery, Fl, at a later date. Donations in his name may be made to your local Hospice, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice .
