Walter E. Long, at the age of 82, of Ilion, NY and formerly of Utica, NY passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 with his loving wife Mary Jane at his side.
Walter was born in Utica, the son of the late Thelma and Walter A. Long. He joined the US Air Force at the age of 17, his father signing the enlistment papers for him to serve honorably during the years of 1954-1957.
Walter and his wife worked and lived in Iran for two years. Then Walt took a job with Northrop Industries to go to Saudi Arabia living there three years. The couple was blessed in so many ways traveling to Hawaii, Athens, Greece and Egypt, along with cruising twice.
Walt was a great provider, companion caregiver and loving husband. He loved his wife's family, especially his grandson Cliftin and his wife Katie and their three children Hailee, Chase and Kami.
He enjoyed doing remodeling of his home, landscaping and keeping constantly on the go. Walt loved football and had season tickets for the Rams and the Raiders.
He worked at Northrop Grumman in California for 20 years until he retired from his managerial position at the weld shop.
Walter thought the world of Bruce and Darlene Evans, Mary Jude and Norman Porter, Phyllis Amodio and Cliff and Edie Chandler. He was blessed with many wonderful caring friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his beloved of 40 years Mary Jane.
As per Walter's request there will be no calling hours. His celebration of life will be held at Calvary Cemetery Chapel at a later date. In lieu of flowers and In Memory of Walter E. Long donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4227 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413 or given to a charity of your choice.
We wish to thank Dr. Jawad Shaikh, St. Luke's Hospital EMR,ICU and PCU for all their excellent care and also the Ilion Ambulance Service and their splendid firemen, unsung heroes who demonstrated with dignity their kindness and help to Walter in his time of his need.
