Terumi
Deangelo
October 12, 1948 – October 31, 2022
Terumi H. DeAngelo, known as Terri to many, born in Tokyo, Japan on October 12, 1948 passed peacefully on October 31, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at the Abraham House after a courageous battle for the third time with breast cancer that had become metastatic.
The daughter of John B. Robinson Jr. and Yoko Fujisawa Robinson, she traveled to the United States at the age of three. She was raised and educated in Utica and graduated from UFA where she was the only student to take on a multiple-choice English literature exam, receiving an almost perfect score. On July 14, 1968, she married Philip J. DeAngelo Sr. They were married 47 years until Philip's passing on October 3, 2015 from lung cancer.
Terri was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She chose to stay home when her children were born to care for and guide them through the years. She then was able to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they were born but was saddened having to stop multiple times when her illness returned.
Terri was an excellent reader with a love of all books. She was the one you always wanted on your trivial pursuit team. Her knowledge about history was unsurpassed. There are many memories of our mother that we wish to cherish.
Boilermaker weekend was a favorite because it evolved into the family reunion weekend. Terri kicked it off by hosting the pre-race spaghetti dinner cooking an incredible meal that she loved to serve. Until she became too ill to do so, she would greet the runners at finish line.
Terri loved having her entire family together, holidays were a favorite, especially Thanksgiving. Everyone would gather for a great meal while enjoying each other's company and nothing else was needed. Good comfort food and family, it is what she loved most. Every Christmas, each grandchild received a special Hallmark ornament that she would pick out specifically for them. She was always so excited to find the perfect one for each of her grandchildren. This went for cards also. She always seemed to find the funniest cards and would send them or hand them out right at the perfect time. She was one who never wanted to intrude or over-step boundaries but would always be there when she was needed. There are so many more memories we all cherish about her and we hope we can continue many of her treasured traditions, especially her famous "candy cane" cookies at Christmas time.
Terri is survived by her three children and their spouses, Philip J. Jr. and Ann Marie DeAngelo of Cassville, Michael A. and MaryJo DeAngelo of Utica and Melissa A. and Thomas Gaffney of Cassville; her grandchildren, Philip Henry DeAngelo of Cassville; Mia, Marlo and Mikey DeAngelo of Utica; Meghan and Colin Way of Waterville, Alexander (Plamondon) and Christi Phelps of Cassville, Alyson and Tucker Stewart of Cassville, Mackenzie Gaffney of Cassville; and her great-grandchildren, Brody and Watson Way of Waterville, and Langston and Henley Stewart of Cassville. As the eldest of her siblings, she will be greatly missed by, John Robinson of South Cairo, NY, Katherine Robinson and her spouse Harvey Stein of Philadelphia, PA, and James Robinson of Whitesboro, NY; many cherished nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins, in-laws Jacquelyne and Ralph Campese, Sharon "Bunny" Evangelista, Deborah Platt, Susie Doris and Joslyn "JoJo" Betz, George and Carol DeAngelo and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Yoko Robinson and her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" and Randy Shires; sister-in-law Robyn Griffiths.
Our family would like to extend thanks to Windy Mitchell, RPAC, who provided care and concern for our mother; Edwards Ambulance, Cassville Fire Department, the staff and PT of Lutheran Home rehabilitation, the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's 6 th Floor. A very grateful thank you to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. (Mallory Henderson) for allowing our mother to rest comfortably in the same home and room as our father did at his passing. A special thank you to the Abraham House volunteers and employees for allowing our mother and our family feel comfortable, at home and welcoming us so graciously. Our family would like to also thank John from John L. Matt Funeral Home in Chadwicks, NY for the care and understanding of our mother's wishes.
As per Terri's wishes, the family will be having a private celebration of her life at a time of their choosing. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in her memory may contribute to the Abraham House Utica 1203 Kemble St. Utica, NY 13501 or Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
