Obituary

Terrence "Terry" Blake Yarbrough Jr. was born on May 16, 1980, and passed away on March 27, 2026. Though his time here was far too short, Terry was loved deeply by his family and those closest to him—held with pride, protected with tenderness, and remembered with a love that time cannot diminish.

Terry was born and raised in Utica, New York, and attended Thomas R. Proctor High School, a place that remains part of his story and the community that helped shape him. He was the kind of person whose presence mattered; to those who knew him best, he was a steady part of their lives, their memories, and their laughter. His absence is felt in a way words can't fully capture, yet his spirit remains in the stories shared, the moments remembered, and the bond that will never be broken.

In his younger years, Terry could often be found on the basketball court at Quinn's Park, spending hours playing the game he loved. The court was where his focus and spirit came alive—steady, determined, and quietly confident. He also had a deep love for music, and nothing captured that joy quite like watching him dance to Michael Jackson (in his much younger years). Terry had a gift for making people smile. A true jokester, he could light up any room with his presence—never needing to be the loudest voice, but always leaving others feeling happier just for having been near him.

Terry was a kind, happy, and incredibly smart individual—selfless, caring, and genuine. He was often quiet, but deeply observant; the kind of person who noticed the little things and understood more than he ever needed to say. He was a kindred spirit, steady and sincere, with a heart that showed up for others in meaningful ways. Family meant everything to Terry. He treasured time spent with the people he loved most, and some of the sweetest memories are of summer days spent fishing with his grandfather —hours by the water filled with patience, and the simple comfort of togetherness. Those moments reflect who Terry was at his core: grounded, loving, and deeply connected to his family.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Terrence Blake Yarbrough Sr. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Simmons‑Yumor, both of Utica, New York. He was the proud big brother of Terenna Simmons and Tristan Short, and lovingly remembered as a grandson, son, nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

Today, we celebrate Terry's life—not only mourning the years we wish we had more of, but honoring the love he gave, the joy he brought, and the place he will forever hold in our hearts.

A life gone too soon, but never forgotten.
