Taras W.
Zenczak
March 11, 1935 – January 3, 2026
Taras Walter Zenczak, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, New York.
He was born on March 11, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Katherine and William Zenczak. He grew up in Cleveland alongside his siblings John, Steve, and his youngest sister Patricia, all of whom preceded him in death. He spent his early years surrounded by a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and often spoke fondly of the time they spent together. Those years in Cleveland helped shape his sense of responsibility, discipline, and connection to family.
Taras was married to his loving wife, Nina, for sixty years. Their marriage was marked by commitment and shared responsibility. He is survived by Nina; his son Andrew and daughter-in-law Jodi; and his two grandchildren, Oscar and Hazel, who brought him great pride.
He was a longtime parishioner of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Catholic Church in Utica, where he contributed steadily to the life of the parish during his 45 years in the New Hartford, New York area.
Taras served in both the United States Navy and the United States Army, and pursued higher education at Kent State University, The Ohio State University, and Cornell University Law School.
Throughout his career, Taras worked in accounting and financial roles for a number of organizations, including Arthur Andersen, White Motor, Chicago Pneumatic Tools, Partlow Corporation, General Electric, and Indium Corporation. He later spent many years as a self-employed financial consultant, providing practical financial guidance to small and large businesses and corporations on a national scale.
Taras will be remembered as a dependable and principled man who took his responsibilities seriously and valued family, service, and community.
In keeping with Taras's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Final arrangements will be made at the discretion of his wife and family. Arrangements are entrusted to the John L. Matt Funeral Home, Chadwicks, New York.
