Obituary

Scott A. Poirier, 70, of Clark Mills, NY, departed this life with his loved ones by his side on Friday May 1, 2026.

Scott Anthony Poirier Loving Partner, Father, Grandfather, Brother and friend.

Scott Anthony Poirier passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2026, seated in his favorite chair by the window, the place where he so often found comfort, watching the birds and the world he loved. He was born in Star Lake, NY on February 8, 1956, the son of Maurice (Pug) Poirier and Shirley LaRocque Poirier.

Scott was a man whose presence filled a room with warmth, laughter, and calm. He was loving, kind, and generous to a fault, always putting others before himself without hesitation. A true peacemaker, Scott valued family and friendships more than anything, he leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in everyone who knew him.

Scott was a proud graduate of Whitesboro High School, class of 1974. During his school years he participated in both football and softball. He continued his devotion to this day, proudly displaying his “Warriors” clothing.

Scott proudly served his country as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1979, serving at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. He often called his time there as some of “ the most memorable in his life”. As a result of this time, he developed lifelong friendships that continue to meet to this day. He played softball and football for the Hospital teams.

He took great pride in following in his father’s and brothers’ footsteps as a member of Iron Workers Local 440, where he spent over 28 years helping to build structures across the country. He was also a member of The American Legion Post 26 of Clark Mills,NY

In his younger years, Scott enjoyed playing both softball and bocce for Happy Days Tavern, where he made many lifelong friends along the way. He also spent many of his younger years fishing and hunting with his father, brothers, and other close friends. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Dallas Cowboys, and Syracuse sports teams and deeply cherished relaxing with some of his best friends, Keith Buckingham, Frank Leonard, Ed Green, Rick Tice and countless others in his man cave, the “Dusty Pig.” He valued his friendship with Steve and Dot Maneen.

He shared a beautiful life and deep bond with his beloved companion of many years, Victoria Hillebrand. Together they built a life filled with simple joys, quiet mornings on the porch, laughter, music, and the comfort of being side by side through everything life brought their way. He had a great singing voice and spent many evenings singing Karaoke.

Scott was previously married to Luann Williams, and from that marriage came his beloved children, Joshua Poirier and Brittany Poirier. He was a devoted father and took great pride in his children. He also held a special place in his heart for Andrea LoParco, whom he regarded as a daughter. Scott found great joy in the title of “Grampy” and was a proud grandfather to D’Marco Smith, Briell Cuocco, Ali Santalucia, and Steven Stark, who brought him endless joy.

He had a special connection to the little world just outside his door, his “private zoo.” Whether feeding the squirrels and chipmunks, watching the deer wander through, or greeting the fox that would visit, Scott found peace and happiness in nature’s quietcompanionship. Many mornings were spent on the back porch, watching the animals and sharing those moments with anyone lucky enough to be by his side.

Scott will be remembered for his humor, his generous spirit, his strength, and the deep love he gave so freely. He touched countless lives, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his memory will forever be a source of comfort and love.

In addition to Vickie, his children, and grandchildren, Scott is survived by his sister Bonnie Bova, brothers Maurice Poirier (Debbie), Richard (Sue) Poirier, Robert (Sandy) Poirier, and a host of nieces and nephews including Tracy, Monique, Mike, Brian. Bridget, Maurice, and Matthew, as well as special Aunt Elizabeth Gains, many cousins and sister in laws Kristine Swenszkowski and Liza Grube. Scott will also be deeply missed by his cats, Oliver and Cuse who lovingly stood guard beside him until his final day. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
