Obituary

Penny was called home, with loving family at her side, on June 11, at Faxton St. Luke's Hospital.  She was born in Ilion, NY, in 1946, daughter of the late John and Madeline Brown Remmell.  She graduated from Ilion High School and attended MVCC.  Penny married Paul Huening at Annunciation Church, in Ilion in 1967.

Penny worked at various jobs in banking, nursing and retail, however her work is not what defined her.  Her first priority was always her family, which she dedicated her life to.  She was deeply involved in her children's lives.  From being a soccer mom, little league, to a commissioner in scouting and everything in between.  She was always there and fully involved, as well as assisting other children and families with support and encouragement, when needed.

Penny was also devoted to her husband of over 48 years. She wrote long letters to him while he served in Vietnam and supported him in so many ways throughout his career.  In the last third or more of her life, she had to live with a debilitating disease that gradually encroached on her life.  However, during this time she was able to travel with her husband on many long trips around the country.  They enjoyed each other's company and created wonderful memories for both.  Most of all, she enjoyed her cherished grandchildren more than anything and they enriched the last part of her life.

Penny is survived by her husband Paul, daughter Jana, of Cumming, Georgia, son Paul of Utica and son Matt of Whitesboro.  She is also survived by her brother John Remmell and wife Pat, of Mission Viejo, CA and her sister Mary Jane Haley and husband Jess, of Barryville, NY.   She leaves ten cherished grandchildren who gave her so much joy.  She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Robert Remmell.  She was the center of the family and her kind-hearted and gentle loving ways will be missed by all.

There will be a private gathering of Penny's immediate family.  ln lieu of calling hours, as her wish, those wishing to send flowers may want to consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Arrangements are under the guidance of the John L  Matt Funeral Home, Chadwicks, NY.
