Monet J.
Shaheen
December 24, 2022
Monet J. Shaheen, 73, of Utica entered into eternal rest on Dec 24, 2022, with her loved ones by her side at Sitrin Healthcare.
Monet was born in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Frederick Shaheen and Julia Mahshie. She was educated locally and was a graduate of MVCC with a degree in Advertising Design and Production. Her first job after graduation was in the advertising department at the Edwards Department store in Syracuse, followed by an exciting job at AAA, as a travel agent which gave her opportunity to travel to Europe and around the United States. She put her customer service skills to advantage when she served as Director of Catering for the Marriot Hotel in Syracuse where she excelled at creating the perfect settings and service for many different events. After returning to Utica, she opened Monet's Uptown Florals in South Utica, where she provided customers with the flowers they needed for all occasions. Monet loved meeting new people and they responded with respect for her artistry and appreciation of her kindness. She later worked as an administrative aide in the medical offices of Dr. Albert Shaheen, until retirement. Monet greatly enjoyed drawing and painting, gifting her closest friends and family with unique sketches and miniature paintings which they treasure. She loved gardening in the spring and summer, prepared fantastic bountiful Boilermaker Sunday breakfasts for family before the race started and she was a gifted baker, often recreating the recipes for Arabic sweets, passed on to her from her grandmother Malakie Mahshie.
Most important to Monet was family. She cared for them and tried to comfort them through the bad times, celebrated with them when there was joy to share. Her sweet, generous nature was known to many people. During her recent illness, Monet was always hopeful for better health and she bore her burden of pain and fear courageously. Her example of strength under fire and belief in the power of prayer and love were inspirational.
Monet is survived by her mother Julia Shaheen, siblings Roselynn (John) Dow, Julie Sprague, and Frederick (Rose) Shaheen, nephews Nicholas Leonard and John (Claire) Dow III and niece Alexandria Shaheen, and many Shaheen and Mahshie cousins in Utica and around the US.
Monet's celebration life will be held on Dec. 30, 2022, Friday at 11 am at St Louis Gonzaga, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Abouna Boutros El Hachem.
