Michael Martoccia, 24, of Utica entered into rest on Saturday July 23, 2011. He was born in New Hartford, NY, the son of Brenda Sears and John Martoccia and was educated in Utica and New Hartford Schools. Michael was a talented writer and an artist who loved music and enjoyed playing bass guitar. He played piano as a child and was the lead singer in a high school band. He also played football as a teenager and loved to hike and fish in the Adirondacks. Michael was a gentle sensitive soul who loved people and was affectionately referred to as "Happy". Michael will be sadly missed by his mother Brenda Sears, his father John Martoccia and two siblings, Christina Martoccia and Marco Martoccia, all of Utica. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Philip Sears, Lake Wiley, SC, and Terri Knight, Sylvan Beach, NY; his aunts and uncles, Anthony Martoccia, Vienna, Va, Dominick and Mary Lou Martoccia, Liverpool, NY, Bill and Lorraine Sears, Knoxville, Tenn, and Todd and Tammy Sears, DeCatur, Tenn.Many surviving cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Stella Martoccia. Michael's mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Calvary Cemetery.
