Obituary

Mary L. Kennedy, 77, of Marcy, NY departed this life in the comfort of her home with her loved ones by her side after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Born in Utica, NY on December 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Eleanor Lange Amrhein and was a graduate of St Frances De Sales High School. She was united in marriage on April 20,1968 to her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Kennedy, Jr.  and maintained a loving commitment of over 58 years.

Mary was a hard-working woman of great strength. She was a beautician for the majority of her working career, always working two jobs and retired from the Oneida County Department of Social Services. Above all, her greatest joy came from being a mother and a grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, who were her entire world. She was an animal lover who cherished her canine and feline companions.

Mary will be sadly missed by her husband Bob; her two children; Karen Trunfio and her husband Michael; her son Robert (Bob) Kennedy, III and her grandchildren; Kylie, Alexis and Gianna Trunfio and Jacob and Olivia Kennedy. She also leaves a special niece Laurie Maglione and her family. In addition, nephew Rick Lewis and his family and sister-in-law Marilyn (Bob)Thomas.  She was predeceased by her in laws Robert and Margaret Kennedy and brothers Ronald and Gerald Amrhein.

Her Celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Feb 24, 2026 at St. Peter's Church, 422 Coventry Ave. Utica, NY, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. The family will greet visitors upon the conclusion of the service. The family would greatly like to thank the caregivers at Hospice and Palliative care for their support, compassion and exceptional care of Mary in her time of need. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice Palliative Care.
