Marie
Bartosiewicz
March 7, 2021
Marie T. Bartosiewicz passed from this life into eternal life on the Lord's Day, Sunday, March 7, 2021, peacefully at home. Born on February 9, 1930, Marie was 91 years of age. She was born in Avoca, Pennsylvania, the daughter of her parents Andrew and Laura Starzec. She was one of eight siblings. She always enjoyed being part of a large family.
Marie enjoyed telling stories about growing up back in the day. She lovingly spoke of her parents and how they expressed the sheer act of selfless love that they gave to her and her siblings. She talked about coming home from school to the aroma of fresh baked pies, bread and the 'popping' sounds of homemade root beer. She said the smell was so incredible she could not wait to get a portion. Through Marie's eyes, her mom could feed the entire neighborhood because she always made so much of everything. She exclaimed, "nothing would go to waste". One of her early employment memories was her work at Coney Island Hot Dogs in Scranton, PA. She remembered how they would line up for those famous hot dogs. She would than tell us how she would take the old 'Laurel Line' from Scranton back to Avoca late at night. Marie shared so many special memories about her younger years that she could have written a book.
Marie graduated from Avoca High School in 1948. After graduating, she held various employment positions. It was during this time, that she met and married Casimir 'Charlie' Bartosiewicz. They were wed on August 13, 1949. They were blessed with two sons, David and Dennis. Through hard work, they provided for their family through all life's trials and tribulations.
For many years she enjoyed housekeeping and gardening. Marie took great pride in her home and was meticulous about her yard. She had a green thumb and a natural designer's ability. She could turn a blank canvas into a beautiful masterpiece of spectacular gardens filled with colorful displays of flowers.
After Charlie's passing in 1996, she resided in the family home for another 10 years. In 2006, she started a new chapter in her life when she relocated to Utica, New York. There she lived with Dennis and Carol, her son and daughter-in-law. It took some time for Marie to grow accustom to New York, but over time she embraced her new environment. She looked forward to her Fall trips to Fly Creek and Cooperstown. She went camping in the Adirondacks. She enjoyed her get-a-ways to Alexandria Bay. She enjoyed many picnics at the family camp. She always looked forward to experiencing a new restaurant. She always enjoyed a day out to see a live Polka band, so she can watch the dancers, as well as listen to the music. In Central New York a new circle of people had come into her life.
Marie had a strong faith in God. She was of Catholic faith. Marie loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with her whole heart. Marie would sit in her favorite chair and pray every day for hours. She attended mass as much as possible between St. Peter's and St. Mark's in North Utica. Even in her latter years, she still enjoyed getting to Holy Trinity Church for Christmas mid-night mass. She had a love of the traditional Polish 'Koledy' music during Christmas time.
She always held her family, especially her brothers and sisters, close to her heart. After moving to New York, she enjoyed her occasional trips back to Pennsylvania to visit family. During those trips, she and her sister Ann would reminiscence for hours. They enjoyed and loved each other's company so very much.
Marie is survived by her sons David (Donna) and Dennis (Carol) Bartosiewicz. She is also survived by her sisters Charlotte Kulik, Ann Francis (Kenneth, Sr.) and Theresa McDonald (Raymond). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was especially close to her nephew Kenneth Francis, Jr. and his wife Mary. She adored and loved their two children Kenneth III and Andrew. She loved them as if they were her own grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow-up over the years. Marie is also survived by her canine companion Jasper, who would always sit next to her chair waiting for the next crumb to drop. He loyally stood guard during her final days.
Marie was predeceased by four brothers Thomas, Joseph, John and Stanley.
A special word of thanks to her nephew Gene Bartosiewicz, II and his wife Sharon, for supporting Marie and the family through kindness and prayers during her entire journey. The family extends many thanks to the exceptional doctors, nurses, medical staffs, and agencies who took part in Marie's medical care. Special thanks to both Dr. Thomas John and Dr. Sultana Razia of Slocum Dickson Medical Group. Both they and their entire staffs went above and beyond. They always treated Marie professionally and with sincere love and care. We also thank Senior Health Network and Visiting Nurses Association. All the nurses and therapists treated Marie with the utmost respect and dignity. They showed kindness, compassion and delivered exceptional care. Both Senior Health Network and the Visiting Nurses Association also provided support to the family. Their warm hearts and words of support were certainly appreciated.
A burial service will be held at a future date in Pennsylvania at the convenience of the family.
