Obituary

Larry H. Haskin Sauquoit Larry H. Haskin, 74, of Sauquoit, "My hope is to die in the meadow or on the mountain." His wish was granted on Good Friday, April 6, 2'012, on Copper Mountain, Colorado, where he was attending his grandson's National Snowboard Competition. Larry was born January 20, 1938, son of Bernice Smith and Warren Haskin of Westfield, NY. After graduating from Westfield Academy, Westfield, NY in 1956, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was dedicated to the study of military history. After earning his degree at Mohawk Valley Technical Institute, he continued his education at SUNY IT and Utica College. Larry worked as a Senior Mechanical Designer at GE Radio Receiver on Broad St in Utica and then at Thompson Consumer Electronics in Syracuse. His career included extensive travel in the Far East and Europe, where he experienced diverse cultures and made many lasting friendships. He was an avid NASCAR fan who had many adventures with his sons at races all over the east coast. Larry regarded retirement as an exciting challenge that he filled by taking on many new endeavors. Each day started with the coffee regulars at the New Hartford Price Chopper after which his grand-pup Beau "Spot" took him out for their morning adventure. He thoroughly enjoyed his participation in the Monday Sr. Bowling League at King Pin Lanes. He was always entertained by his bowling buddies, who were a highlight of his week. Larry leaves his "Lifeline" of 50 years, Carol; daughters Valerie and Michael Loucy, VT; Cheryl and Stephen Manna, Whitesboro; sons Timothy Haskin and Mitch Nelson, MN; Andrew and Jennifer Haskin, Barneveld and Neill and Melissa Haskin, MD. Daughter-in-Law Catherine Haskin. Grandchildren Carolyn, Samantha and Nicholas Haskin; Madison, Jack and Molly Loucy; Emily and Evan Manna; Adam and Brett. Sister-in-law Louise and Jack Norris, CA. He never missed the Haskin Family Reunion or other large family events. The family would like to acknowledge Susan Griffing N.P. for her years of caring and friendship. He enjoyed the bond he had with his canine companions Mack and Mickey. Larry was tremendously proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments and endeavors. He was a dedicated attendee at their sporting events, musical performances and programs. He was looking forward to his granddaughter Samantha's wedding in September. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed exploring the creative possibilities offered by digital photography which he used to chronicle his family's many adventures and celebrations.
