Joya Rose Marine, 72, of Utica, NY departed this life Thursday December 31, 2015 with her loved ones by her side.
She was born in Utica, NY the daughter of the late Jacqueline (Chickie) Farina and the late Frank J. Marine.
She attended Conkling and Proctor high schools, and attended Academy of St. Elizabeth's, Morristown, NJ.
She was once married to Fred Cuda and from that marriage they had one son Matthew "Matty" Cuda.
Joya was a self-employed Restaurateur who owned and operated the "Original Grimaldi's Restaurant for 24 years which was co-owned by her son.
She later established Joya's Restaurant, where adding much of her own distinctly tasteful design choices created a characteristically unique eating experience with great ambiance and cuisine.
Joya was a rising star in the restaurant business, and displayed consistent class and generosity to her guests and many friends.
She will be sadly missed by her son Matthew "Matty" Cuda, her beloved grandchildren, Matthew M. Cuda II, and Jaclyn R. Cuda of Sherrill, NY.
Also surviving are many cousins; Jacqueline Farina, William Nudo Jr., Frank Marine, Danny Marine, Salvatore and Nancy Farina, Thomas Farina, Jacky Farina Romano, Matthew and Nancy Farina, Charles Cragnolin Jr.
Friends to acknowledge; Darlene Dellers, Mary Ellen Shaw, Loretta Centolella Taurisano, Louie Diana, Debbie Bentley, Richard Covertino, Tony Faccioli, John Dellerba, Diane and Mary Abraham, Joette Mancuso,Dominick and Jennie LoGalbo. Also Her Caregivers; Talley, Carlos, Justine, Ferida Grahovic. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Brianna Joya Cuda who died on July 19, 2009.
Matty would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the St. E's ICU .
Joya's Celebration of life will be held Saturday January 9,2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Historic Old St. John's church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev John A. Buehler,Pastor.
There are no calling hours. Friends may greet the family in the vestibule preceding the mass.
