Obituary

John V.  Hollinger 91, of Utica departed this life on Monday December 16, 2019 at the Masonic Care Community.

Born in Huntingdon, PA in 1929, he was the son of the late A.E. "Jack" and Ethel (McElhone) Hollinger. He attended William Smith Elementary School and Huntingdon High School, graduating in 1946. Post graduation he worked at A.E. Hollinger Furniture Store, the family business in Huntingdon, PA.

In 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was sent to Camp Breckenridge in Morganfield, KY for basic training with Company C, 516th Infantry Regiment. He was also active in the 101st Airborne Division and was later assigned to the 3 rd Armored Calvary Regiment at Fort Meade, MD, outside Washington D.C.

In December of 1949, due to budget restraints, he was offered to transfer to the inactive reserves. He then returned home to work in the family business.  In 1950 the outbreak of the Korean War ensued, and he was recalled to active duty where he reported to the 11 th Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY. He was assigned to process reservists for shipment of eight ships to Korea.

John returned to civilian life and to the furniture store. In February of 1952 he was united in marriage to Joan Bunn. During this time John worked and attended Juniata College in Huntingdon as an economics and business major, graduating in 1958.

John's last employment was at MVCC as a college registrar prior to retiring.

He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Joan and his two children; Jodie Hollinger-Lant and Daniel Hollinger.

As per John's wishes there will be no public calling hours.  His family honored him at a private time.
