John M. Bacon, 89, of Whitesboro, NY, departed this life on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at The Abraham House, in Rome, NY, with his loved ones by his side.

He was born in Clinton, NY, the son of the late William and Grace Spencer Bacon and was educated there. He served in the US Army from 1958-1960, when he was honorably discharged. John was united in marriage to the former Sally Ann Whitacre in 1963, a loving commitment for 59 years until her passing in 2023. He worked at Mohawk Containers, for many years, retiring in 1996.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed bowling,  baseball, football, basketball and loved spending time with family and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his son, Joe Bacon and his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Beth Hoff and her husband, Jim, of Rockton, IL; beloved grandchildren, James Hoff and wife, Kathryn, of Portland, MA and Jonathan Hoff, Chicago, IL; sister, Grace Bacon, Latham, NY; brother, Daniel Bacon and his wife, Mary, Clinton, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Stephen Bacon and Eugene Bacon.

John's Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, NY, on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Robert Weber. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton, NY. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the John L. Matt Funeral Home, 3309 Oneida St., Chadwicks, NY.
