Janet K.
Snizek
February 27, 1936 – February 23, 2025
Janet (Karas) Snizek, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 27, 1936, in Utica, she remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life, while enjoying her winter months living with her husband in Daytona Beach, Fl., Edgewater, Fl., and most recently, Summerfield, Fl.
Janet was a graduate of UFA in Utica, New York. After graduation she went to work at the telephone company as a switchboard operator. On September 1, 1956, she was wed to Fred Snizek of Yorkville where they remained devoted to a lifelong marriage of 68 years. She and her husband Fred spent many years traveling to tropical islands and taking cruises around the world. She was the original co-owner/co-founder of Crystal Springs Golf Course in Vernon, where she dedicated herself to every aspect of its operation. Whether cutting fairways and tee boxes, cooking for tournaments, or managing the clubhouse—all while maintaining a household and raising her five boys—her tireless work ethic and devotion were evident in everything she did. More than anything at the course, she enjoyed the people that would frequent the establishment. They were more than simply members or patrons, to her they were a substantial part of her life and extended family.
Janet found great joy in playing golf, traveling, cooking and attending to her flower gardens. She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church (Utica) and Holy Family Church (Vernon), where her faith played an important role in her life. Known for her caring and generous spirit, she always put others first and took immense pride in watching her family grow. She cherished spending time with her nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren dearly. To all twenty of them she was their beloved "Babci."
She is survived by her loving husband, Fred Snizek; her sons Ed Snizek (Suzanne Lockhart); Paul Snizek; Tom Snizek (Jackie Bennati); and her grandchildren Sarah (Snizek) Mavor (Peter Mavor); Laura Snizek Ramirez (José Ramirez); Krista (Snizek) Martin (James Martin); Matt Snizek; Kelly (Snizek) Buffa (Mike Buffa); Melissa (Snizek) Jones (Tristan Jones); Amanda (Snizek) D'Elia (Nick D'Elia); Emma Snizek and Jonah Snizek. Her sons Steven Snizek and John Snizek predeceased her.
Janet's legacy of love and dedication will live on through those who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort to all who were touched by her kindness. The family will be announcing a mass of Christian burial and memorial service to be held at Crystal Springs Golf Course at a later date.
