Frank A. "Chickie" Barretta, 95, of Whitesboro, NY, died Thursday February 4, 2020 at Rome Hospital.
Frank was born in Utica, NY, the son of the late Antonio and Maria Antonia Contino Barretta. He was educated in Utica and enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and honorably discharged in 1946. During that time he served his country in the European theater.
Frank was employed as a maintenance mechanic at GE on Bleecker St. for many years retiring in the early 1990's.
Frank married Eleanor Scottolero in May of 1948, until her passing in 1971. He entered into a second marriage with Elsie Hodges and she also predeceased him.
Frank is survived by his two sons Frank Barretta, Jr., of Utica, and Dennis Barretta of Whitesboro. Also his neighbor and good friend Vincent Mazzei. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Mary Antoinette Barretta August of 2014, and son Raymond Barretta, February of 2015. A special thank-you for the Doctors,Nurses and Staff at Rome Memorial Hospital during Frank's illness.
Frank's celebration of life will be Tuesday at 10am at St. Mary of Mt Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Cesta, with military honors conferred. Please be advised that you must register at the church 15 minutes prior to mass and all guests must follow Covid-19 requests, wearing masks over nose and mouth.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
As per Frank's wishes there is no public viewing. Arrangements are under the guidance of the John L Matt Funeral Home, Chadwicks, NY.
