Mr. Francis R. DiGeorge, 91, of the town of New Hartford, NY departed this life on Tuesday, September 19,2023
Francis was born in Utica, NY the son of the late Tomaso and Providence (LoGalbo) DiGeorge. He graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School and received his associate degree from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army as sergeant during the Korean War.
He was the general manager of Utica Steam Engine and Boiler Works prior to becoming Vice President of Nathan Steel working until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member of the International Association of Machinists, Colonial American Legion and was a board of director member of the Sons of Italy Utica Lodge.
Francis's family was his pride and joy. He loved that he and his wife were able to pass down to their family, the Italian Christmas Eve tradition of the Feast of the Seven Fishes. If not with family, he could often be found antiquing. In addition, he was active in coaching youth baseball and one of his proudest accomplishments was coaching the South Utica Babe Ruth 15-year-old All Star team, to winning the NYS Championship.
He is survived by his loving wife, Isabella (Saporito) DiGeorge who were high school sweethearts; his two sons Thomas Francis (Sheri) and Michael Alan; his two daughters Denise (Mark) Calenzo and Doreen (Bernard) Salamone and his 10 grandchildren Meredith and Caroline DiGeorge; Michael, Melanie and Mallory DiGeorge; Daniella, Mark, and Justina Calenzo; Nicole and Justin Salamone. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Providence (LoGalbo); his sisters Terry (Sam) Sabino, Annette (Louie) Rastini, Phyllis Fiore, John (Mary) DiGeorge, Mary (Ed) Justice, Rose Loubriel, Shirley (Art) Sabino.
The DiGeorge family is very thankful and appreciative of the support and loving care that Hospice provided during the last several months and would like to recognize Katie, Georgia, Evie, Irene, Mallory, Lisa, and Deb. Donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care, serving the Oneida, Herkimer, and Eastern Madison Counties.
Francis's celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Sept 25,2023 at St John the Evangelist Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. A private entombment was held at Calvary Mausoleum, Utica,NY with military honors conferred.
