Obituary

Frances A. Zumpano, 99, of 5683 Walker Rd., Deerfield, NY, and of late, 9971 SW 128 Street, Miami, Florida, entered into rest Monday, December 21, 2010 at South Miami Hospital, Miami, Florida, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in Cropani, Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy, on July 1, 1911, the daughter of the late Joseph and Cesira (Jessie) Mazza Falvo. Frances was brought to this country by her parents in 1913 at 2 years of age, at which time they settled in the Utica area. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and attended Utica School of Commerce. For many years she was secretary to Dr. John Rossi. On September 7, 1931 she was joined in marriage to Caesar A. Zumpano, who died on August 7, 1964. She was an exemplary homemaker for most of her life, imparting to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the importance of home and family in an atmosphere of love and caring. Frances leaves behind her son, Bernard Joseph Zumpano, M.D., a retired medical school Professor of Neurosurgery residing between Miami, Florida and Utica, NY. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Karen Juteau of Utica, NY, Anita and Tom Price of W. Edmeston, NY, and Joseph and Grace Zumpano, Daniel and Nelida Zumpano, Carl Anthony and Monica Zumpano, and Roseanne and Erick Bradford, all of Miami, Florida. Also survivng are her brother- and sisters- in-law, John and Jean Zumpano, and Anna Zumpano, all of Utica, NY . She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and many cousins of the Mazza family line, and many nieces and nephews of the Zumpano family line. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved son Salvatore A. ("Sonny") Zumpano, who died on July 7, 2009 and by his late wife, her daughter-in-law Martha Montana Zumpano, by daughter-in-law Rosa Maria Canto Zumpano, by her grandson Gian-Andrew Zumpano who died in 1990 at age 22 , by her great-grandson, Walter Becraft , who died in 1995 at age 18, and by a great-great grandson, Gabriel Barr, who died during birth in 2006 . The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and thanks to her special friends, Frank and Sue Montana and Nancy Delea, all of Utica, and Nora Keen, and Oscar and Clara Miranda, all of Miami, all of whom gave generously of their time and talents in caring for Frances and contributing to her comfort in many ways during her final years; and particularly to James O'Malley, MD, of Utica, NY, for his more than 30 years of dedicated medical care and concern for her well being, and to the many Utica doctors who contributed to her care. Special thanks also to Edgardo Pellegrini, MD and Jose' Pinero, MD, and all of the doctors and nursing staff of South Miami Hospital CCU all of Miami, Florida, and Herbert Slavin, MD and Shirley Jimenez, PA both of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for their kindness and care toward her while she was living in Miami; and to the many family and friends, nurses and nursing assistants in both Utica and Miami who encouraged her by phone or gathered around her to make her last 20 months both loving and comfortable. Frances leaves a legacy of love and traditional family values to her loved ones that will not be forgotten and that will be carried on by all of her generations to follow. A Commital Service will be held Friday, January 7, 2011 at Christ Our Savior Mausoleum (upper chapel), Calvary Cemetery, Utica, NY. at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the conclusion of the service. Arrangements are under the guidance of John L. Matt, Jr., F.D. of the John L. Matt Funeral Home, Chadwicks, NY., and Erick Bradford, F.D., of the Caballero-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Miami, Florida.
