Douglas W. Cadwell, 78 of Westmoreland, NY, departed this life on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare.
Douglas was born in Utica, NY, the son of the late Ellis Cadwel and Betty Watkins Cadwell. He graduated from the West Winfield Central School and married his sweetheart, who he met in the sixth grade. Their marriage lasted 60 years. He was a dairy farmer until retirement. He then went to work part time at Empire Livestock in Vernon, NY. He also had chickens and delighted in caring for them.
Douglas made many friends in Vernon, including David Sherwood and Stanley Washelski. He will be remembered as a hard worker and a great cowman. Rumor has it that he could get milk out of a stone.
Douglas is survived by his wife Deanna Goosey Cadwell, one son, Robert Eugene Cadwell, two daughters, Vicky (Don) Williams and Rebecca (Robert) Lewis. Also surviving are his grandchildren Joshua Aylesworth, and Daniele Williams and son Jack, Bobby Lewis, Sheena Reid (Andrew Mackey), Jeremey (Jennifer) Cadwell, Lacey (Chad) Stefanovich, John Douglas Reid and Allie Laymon, Richelle Reid and Richard Donnelly and great grandchildren, Ashton Reid, Lailia Talarico, Antoni Talarico, Alxzandar Reid, Audyn, Kendall Jarimyah Thompson, Braydn Mackey. Riley and Laney Cadwell, Greyson, Grandon Stefanovich, Maylee and Madalyn Reid, Brylynn and Richard Donnelly, Zander & Emma Lewis. A great great granddaughter Nora Reid.
Douglas is survived by his mother, Betty Cadwell, his siblings, Bruce and his wife Bernice; Curt and his wife Marcia, Dennis and his wife Karen, Cadwell, Kim Craig and her husband Terry and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Anita Gremillion and his granddaughter, Meaghen Cadwell.
The family thanks Dr. Din and his staff and the staff at St Luke's for the care and compassion they have shown during his battle with cancer. A very special thank you and love sent to family members for their love and support throughout his illness.
