Diane Shephard, 65, of Ilion, NY, formerly of Frankfort and Westmoreland, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, on December 22, 2024.

Born on July 6, 1959, Diane was the youngest daughter of Elizabeth Dudash and Stephen Beckwith. She grew up in Westmoreland, NY, graduating from Westmoreland High School in 1977. Her dedication to learning and achievement was recognized when she earned her associate degree from Mohawk Valley Community College and was named Woman of the Year by Woman Magazine

She was married to Larry S. Shephard on July 4th, 1981.

Diane was a dedicated worker and served in various roles throughout her career, including at The Masonic Home, Utica University, The Hook Line and Sinker, and Sodexo Food Services. Her customers and guests always enjoyed seeing Diane's kind and smiling face, no matter where she was taking care of them.

Diane cherished time with her beloved children and grandchildren, as well as enjoying peaceful days by the lake. Her compassionate spirit shone through in everything she did, particularly in her love for animals, especially cats and dogs. Known for her kindness and unwavering willingness to help others, Diane left a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Diane is survived by  her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie (Shephard) and Ryan Lawless; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry P. and Sandra D. Shephard; and her cherished grandsons; Aidan, Mason; and granddaughters; Debi, Zoey, Riley, and Ellie. Diane also leaves behind her siblings Deborah Beckwith, Sandra Beckwith, Stephen Beckwith, Rick Beckwith, and Gary Beckwith; her special sister-in-law and husband Linda and James McLeod; and nieces and nephews Thomas Karrat, Theresa Karrat, Tina Holmes, Jamie Nastri, and David McLeod.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Stephen Beckwith;  her sister, Cathy Hughes; and her former husband Larry S. Shephard.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful community at London Towers, whose kindness, friendship, and support made Diane's final months joyous and filled with love.  The family would also like to send a very special thank you to the team that cared for Diane in the ICU at Wynn Hospital during her final days. Your compassion and professionalism will forever remain with them.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society in Diane's honor. A Celebration of Life will be planned for later in the year.
