Obituary

Christopher A. Jones, 55, of Utica NY,  passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024 after a short and very courageous battle with cancer.

Chris was born on March 22, 1969 to Richard Jones and Suzanne (Jones) Synborski in New Hartford, NY. He graduated from New York Mills Jr. Sr. High School in 1988. After high school Chris spent many years in the field of auto mechanics and never lost his deep love for anything related to muscle cars.

Music was a huge part of Chris' life, and he was a talented guitarist. In the words of his cousin Ben…"He was a top metalhead- he loved the culture, the look, and the sound. He loved it explosive and loud. He was always the first to break out with the latest greatest tape of the hardest rockers and already knew every word as you were hearing it for the first time. Even in his final days he refused to cut his hair because it was his trademark. There was no better time than headbanging and throwing horns with Chris Jones." Oh, how he loved his movies too, his crazy ability to quote them was uncanny! He had a raw (bordering on inappropriate) sense of humor, and his laugh was so very contagious to anyone in his presence.

Chris was predeceased by his father Richard Jones, his maternal grandparents Edward and Frances Synborski as well as his paternal grandparents Clarence and Lucille Jones. Chris is survived by his mother Suzanne Synborski, his only sibling Melissa Bastien, his beloved daughter Kai Jones, and his 4-legged babies DOG, Smokey, and Callie.

His sister Melissa who was his primary caregiver to the end would like to extend a few personal heartfelt thank yous… first and foremost to her husband Michael for all his constant support and all the very late night meals he cooked to be sure she was eating, to her best friend and her "rock" Bonnie for always being by her side for the ride, to their mom for all the support and check-ins from afar and for coming home to spend some time with him, to their cousin Ben for all the inappropriate jokes that would always lighten the mood (they were much appreciated and needed), to Chris's best friend Tommy for taking care of the animals, and lastly to the entire 8th floor Oncology nursing staff at Wynn Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to Chris throughout this incredibly difficult time.

In closing…Duuude, long live the sugar packet story, the memory of his last conversation with his mom, and for crying out loud…stop picking!

There will be no public services. His family and closest friends will have a very private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ASPCA.

Arrangements are under the guidance of John L Matt Funeral Home, Chadwicks, NY. To send an online greeting go to: www.johnlmattfuneralhome.com
