Anthony J., 102, of Forked River, N.J. passed away peacefully at home on February 6, 2015. Tony was born on "Manhattan Island," New York on March 13, 1912. His early years were spent in Edgewater, but his ties to Fort Lee began as a boy when he made deliveries for his family's general store in the Coytesville section of Fort Lee. Later he and his wife Frances would move to Coytesville in the 1950s to raise their three children. He and Frances went on to retire in Forked River, where Tony spent the last 27 years. Tony worked at Lever Brothers from 1934-1975, with a leave from 1941-1945, to proudly serve in the US Army during World War II. Anthony was a devoted husband of 64 years to the late Frances (2013), loving father to Maria Conway and husband Thomas of Englewood Cliffs, Anthony Massaro of Forked River, and Frank Massaro of Easton, PA. He was the cherished grandfather of Matthew and Andrew Conway, Vanessa Henderson and husband Dante, Daniel and Amanda Massaro, and dearest great-grandfather of Gabriel Donald Henderson. Tony is also survived by many dear family members, good friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his beloved sister Jean Matt and her husband John. Tony will be remembered for his work ethic, precision, superb memory, fondness for homemade baked goods, his bowling league game when he almost scored 300, and his pride in family, home and country. Tony's longevity is an inspiration; his was a well-lived life of moderation, routine and purpose. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 11 am until the time of service at 12 PM at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9, Forked River, NJ 08731. Interment will follow at Good Luck Cemetery, Lanoka Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anthony's memory to the Lacey Township First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 289, Forked River, NJ 08731.
