Angelo F. Amodio, 71, of New Hartford, NY entered into eternal life on Sunday July 26, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Utica, N.Y. the son of the late Floyd and Lydia Tartaglia Amodio and was a graduate of Proctor High School. Angelo furthered his education and attended Utica College receiving a degree in Public Speaking. Angelo established his own real estate and insurance business, which led him in his later years to attend Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science, receiving a BS degree with honors, becoming a licensed Funeral Director. Mr. Amodio fulfilled his life long dream and established Amodio Funeral Service, working it with compassion and dignity. He was a life long communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church/Blessed Sacrament Parish and held many volunteer positions such as: past Director of the Players Guild and Parish Council, and composer and director of the 75th and 100th Mt. Carmel anniversary shows. Prior to his death, Angelo was President of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society and chaired the church festival 11 times. In his political career he was formerly the City of Utica Republican Chairperson and a member of the Oneida County Board of Legislators for 18 years, where he served as member of many committees. Some of his many accomplishments include serving as one of the moving forces to create the Oneida County Dept. Of Health, becoming Chairperson of the Utica Industrial Development Agency, creating the Utica Business Park and having an instrumental role in the formation of Insight House. Angelo was the Oneida County Coroner Liaison and had a significant hand in the formation of the much needed Medical Examiners from the antiquated County Coroner system. Additionally, he was a past member of the board of directors of the Marguerite Curri Lupus Foundation Chapter. One of Angelo's greatest pleasures was dining with friends and family at his son Philip's restaurant "Pumpernickels." He will be missed by all patrons and staff. Angelo was a kind and compassionate man and will be sadly missed by his beloved family members: wife Philomena, two sons Anthony and Philip, daughter Teresa and her husband Steven Lawrence, sister Gina and her husband Richard DeMartis, beloved grandchildren Matthew and Brianna Amodio, and Angela, Stephanie and Michaela Lawrence, in laws Marie Amodio, Francis and Antoinette Scalzo, Mario and Carmelann Scalzo, Josephine and John Giacovelli as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to acknowledge life long friends: the Honorable Anthony Shaheen, Daniel LoConti, Theresa and Pasquale Ianno, Mary Lourdes and Frank Chiffy, Daniel Klockowski, and Carol and Ronald Cardamone as well as special nieces Tanya Kovacs , Marybeth Timian and cousin Carol Ann Prendergast. He was pre-deceased by his son Michael in 1998 and brother Roger in 2001. Angelo's celebration of life will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday July 30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James Cesta, Pastor and concelebrated by Monsignor Ronald Bill and Rev. Joseph Salerno.Family will greet guests after the mass in the vestibule at the church. Per Angelo's wishes there will be no visitation. Interment will be at St. Agnes cemetery.
