Alphonse Belmont, 85, of Utica entered into rest peacefully Saturday Aug. 5,2017.
He was born in Rome, NY and lived most of his life in Utica, NY. He was a 1951 graduate of Proctor High School in Utica.
He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the State University of New York; he then received a Masters Degree in Education from SUNY.
Al attended Oxford University in England for post-graduate studies in British literature. Mr Belmont taught English at Staley Junior High school in Rome,NY for ten years.He was then appointed Chairman of the Guidance Department at Rome Free Academy, where he served for twenty years, retiring in 1990.
Al is survived by his nieces and nephews:Steven Pandolfo of Palm Springs,CA; Robert Pandolfo,his wife Lori and their two daughters of Brooklyn, NY; Joan Marie Pandolfo Cortez and her two sons of Southhold,NY; Maryann Pandolfo of Manhattan,NY; and Philip Pandolfo of Somers, NY.
He is also survived by three children:Suzanne Streifert,her husband Jeff and their two children; Richard Childress,his wife Linda and son;and Dr.William Joseph Childress, his wife Melissa and their three Children.
Al was predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Cora Belmont when he was a youngster.He is also predeceased by his adoptive parents Dominic and Angeline Pandolfo; and his brother Dr. Philip Pandolfo and his wife Nina.
As per Al's wish there will be no calling hours.
Al's Celebration of Life will be held Thursday Aug. 10,2017 at 10;30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt.Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Cesta.The family will greet callers after the mass at the church.
Private entombment will be held at Resurrection Chapel at Holy Trinity cemetery. In lieu of Flowers contribution will be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Blessed Sacrament Memorial Fund.
